Introduction BLC Plant Company was started in 1978 by Joe Stravino, and since then the company has grown from strength to strength. BLC Plant Company’s Core Business The nature of our business is to purchase equipment for stock; to rebuild it as required in the fully equipped on-site workshops and then re-market it to users in various industries. These industries include mining houses, plant hire companies, construction companies and municipalities. BLC Plant Company focuses on delivering products which meet customer specifications, and offers buyers a viable alternative to new equipment. The production process that BLC Plant Company follows is extremely rigid and much emphasis is placed on adhering to this process in order to achieve successful results, and satisfy the customer’s needs. Where is BLC Plant Company Today? / BLC Plant Company’s Growth From their humble beginnings in a small Wynberg yard in 1978, BLC Plant Company has emerged as Africa’s leading used equipment dealer. Growth and development is something that BLC Plant Company is without a doubt accustomed to. The company has increased their premises to currently occupy 55,000m2 of office / storage and workshop facilities. The physical growth of the company has allowed them to augment their business goals and objectives, and in addition present their customers with a more holistic product offering. In addition, at any given time BLC Plant Company has in excess of 350 machines in stock, encompassing all forms of earthmoving equipment including:- Graders, Dozers, Loaders, Hydraulic Excavators, Tractor Loader Backhoes and compactors. The objective is to satisfy a diverse target market’s needs, and an extensive supply of equipment facilitates this objective. A Used Spares Division was opened in 1990, and presently trades as Blackwood Hodge SA. The rapid growth of this division has lead to their position as the leading supplier of used parts in Southern Africa and arguably in the world. This division has dismantled over 1700 Caterpillar machines, most of which were current or late model machines. From this stock, customers and prospects have an extensive selection of used as well as reconditioned parts and components, and in doing so Blackwood Hodge is able to cater for all types within the target market. In 2002 - BLC Plant Company formed a joint venture company with Barloworld Equipment called The Used Equipment Company. The Used Equipment Company was created for the marketing of used Caterpillar Equipment in Southern Africa. This bears testament to their unsurpassed and unmatched products and service. Whilst BLC Plant Company’s expansion into Africa has been considerable, the company also boasts clients throughout North and South America, Australasia, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. The company started with 5 employees and now has over 220 staff members to successfully and efficiently meet customer needs and requirements. With such an all-encompassing and far reaching customer base, it is no surprise then that BLC Plant Company may be looked upon as the epitome of a successful and growing company.
